There are several ways to point a domain name to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. When you own a domain name and you've set up a website using some on-line service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you're going to achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. It is very important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one company and working e-mail address with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently further configuration may be required with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting

In case you have a cloud website hosting plan from our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted in your account through the Hepsia Control Panel offered with every single plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the modification. If you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have set up a site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will allow you to create a CNAME record easily. Whether you want to create a private URL for your emails, to point a domain address to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another company and use some third-party service that they provide, it's not going to require more than 3 clicks to create this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so when you are there, all that you will have to do will be to select the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can see a short video within the CP regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
