Each registered domain name has a minimum of two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your Internet domain to the servers of a particular website hosting company. In this way, you've got both your site and your e-mails handled by the same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one indicates which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an illustration, whenever you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain uses and from there you could be sent to the servers of another provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain address. Having independent records for the website and the e-mails means that you may have your site and your e-mails with 2 different companies if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a cloud website hosting plan through our company, you will be able to see, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domain names. Provided that a specific domain name has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify certain records by using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or e-mails directed to another service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will even permit you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain the slightest bit. If you choose to use the email services of a different provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do it with just a few mouse clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, provided with our semi-dedicated plans, allows you to see the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if needed, to edit any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is quite easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so editing a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a few more clicks and in case you experience any difficulties, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you 100 % control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to create more than two different MX records, you can choose the priority of each one.
